Pumpkins

My goals for this piece were to show the values and shadows in pumpkins using dramatic lighting. I used charcoal and white chalk to create bright highlights and dark shadows. The most difficult challenge was showing the difference in lighting while still making it look realistic. I had to carve out the light by using compressed charcoal to achieve a deep black. I like how there is a focal point in the center of my artwork. I learned useful techniques with charcoal that Mr. Gaudreau showed me. If I had a do-over, I would try to give the stems more value and make them more realistic. I enjoyed using charcoal and I like how there are lights and darks.

  1. Very Dramatic picture. I like how the curly stem emerges suddenly out of the dark
